Deciding on a Song to Perform: Mad World

So we've picked a Genre, Pop- a good choice as discussed why in the previous blog, but now we had to decide on what song to produce a music video of, a slightly harder decision to come to.
There was an option either; write and perform our own song or use an existing song to adapt to our own music video (with permission from the creators).
Due to time restrictions and the challenges creating an original song would cause our group (Oliver, Callum, Will and myself) have decided to look for existing songs.
It's taken the group many weeks but we've eventually come to a decision on what song we would like to do a music video of.

Our first proposal was 'Mad World' by Gary Jules. It had a clear mood to work from and the existing music video wasn't particularly narrative driven leaving plenty of opportunities to create our own take on the song.

We did previously decide on Pop as our main genre and although Jules' work typically is pop, folk or soft rock, we eventually decided that the slow, sorrowful flow of the song wasn't the direction we wanted to go for our own video. I personal think something more upbeat and faster flowing would give us more opportunity to cut between shots and scenes and provide a stronger narrative.
